Carpal tunnel syndrome involves compression of the median nerve after an injury, causing tendons or ligaments in the wrist to become swollen and inflamed. The small tunnel in the bones and ligaments of the wrist pinch nerves to the fingers and muscles at the base of the thumb. Symptoms include tingling of the fingers, especially in the thumb, index, and middle fingers, to having a difficult time gripping or making a fist.
